How to keep your Pilates practice going this summer

August is when most people quietly pause. No decision. No dramatic moment. Just the holiday, the broken routine, the kids at home — and suddenly the studio feels like it belongs to a different version of life. Then September lands and everything feels harder than it should. We see it every year. We also see the ones who don't let it happen. The difference isn't willpower. It's a few small things done differently in August.

Our bodies don’t take a Summer break

Postural habits don't pause because you're on holiday. The desk tension, the hip tightness, the nervous system running too hot — Pilates has been managing all of that quietly, session by session. Take it away and the work doesn't disappear, it just starts to unravel.

Consistent movement — even reduced, even imperfect — keeps the foundation intact. The clients who feel good in September are almost always the ones who didn't fully stop in August.

What consistent actually means in summer

Maybe not the usual 3 or 4 sessions a week. Maybe not the full programme. Just enough to keep the thread.

One studio class. A Tuesday or Friday virtual session from wherever you are — live, taught sessions you can take from your living room, a holiday cottage or a hotel room with enough floor space for a mat. Ten minutes of mat work before the day starts, using one of our short YouTube routines. That's it. That's enough to keep you connected.

The Classical mat sequence was designed to travel. The Hundred, the Roll Up, the Single Leg Circle, the Series of Five — Joseph Pilates built these exercises because the body needs to move every day, not just when it's convenient. No reformer required. No excuses needed.

We've got a growing library of short routines on YouTube — five to fifteen minutes, Classical Pilates, for wherever you are.

When a break is unavoidable

It happens. A long holiday, an illness, a season that's just too much. Sometimes stopping is the right call. What we'd say to anyone coming back: the body holds onto more than you think. Muscle memory, breath awareness, the postural habits built over months — they don't vanish in a few weeks. They just need reminding.

Come back gently. One session to reconnect, not to perform. And give it 2 or 3 more before you judge how it feels.

We're here

However August has gone — you’ll be welcomed back. No speech, no pressure. Just the studio, the apparatus and the work.

Can't get in? Our Tuesday and Friday virtual classes are the same teaching on screen.

Haven't started yet? Our £55 Intro to the Studio package is a private session, a reformer class and a mat class. A proper start, not a taster.
